PRESENTATION

Napoleonica. La Revue is an online review which aims to promote research on the history of the First and Second French Empires.

ISSN : 2100-0123

An academic review

For many years now Napoleonic history has suffered from lack of interest at university level, being left instead to the studies of historical writers and enthusiasts. As a result, whole fields of research and thought have been left untouched.

Napoleonica. La Revue aims gradually to make good this lack of interest, while at the same time pursuing a policy of publishing source materials and organising meetings and colloquia at the Fondation Napoléon.

The academic nature and standard of published articles will be guaranteed by an independent academic committee, chaired by M. Patrice Gueniffey, director of studies at EHESS (École des hautes études en sciences sociales) and director of the Centre de recherches politiques Raymond Aron. He will be supported in this task by renowned university academics in the subjects in question and by specially recruited experts.

La Revue will furthermore also undertake a study of key publications and will publish book reviews. It will do the same for colloquia and exhibitions.

A multidisciplinary review

Napoleonica. La Revue will not impose any limits with regard to the subject matter handled; it will include history of all kinds: general, literary, social, economic, financial, institutional, administrative, military, diplomatic, history of art, etc.

The journal will not be exclusively French-focused, and we invite non-French historians to submit articles for publication, which may naturally also be about their respective countries.

An international review

The international perspective of Napoleonica. La Revue will be guaranteed by the composition of the Academic Committee, by the publication in French or English of articles and reviews, and by the subject material itself.

Besides reviews of books and events, Napoleonica. La Revue will organised by themes:

We shall also be developing some more original themes with the aim of offering a service to researchers:

HOW TO PROPOSE AN ARTICLE

Article proposals must be sent by email to the editor-in-chief, Thierry Lentz, who will then submit them to the academic committee.

The article must take the form of a document in Word format, sent as an attachment to the email, addressed to lentz(@)napoleon.org

Although the flexibility of online publishing does not, in principle, impose any limitation on article length, these should nonetheless be no longer than 80,000 characters, including spaces.

Article presentation should contain as little extra formatting as possible.

Tables, graphs and illustrations must be positioned where possible in the emailed document. We will however accept these components in a separate document, provided that their location in the article is clearly indicated in the “manuscript” document.

Each article must include:

Footnotes should be inserted at the bottom of the page, using continuous numbering. Bibliographical conventions are those generally adopted by academic reviews.

Authors should include a few lines of biographical information and a brief CV giving details of their publications and a list of their most recent works or important published research. They should agree to grant exclusive rights to their text to Napoleonica. La Revue for a period of 2 years. They will be sent twenty hardcopy printouts of their article after its publication.
